I do thing we should jump the gun and try to get rid of Bonk just yet. He really in my opinion improved in the second half of the season, even though he was playing on the third/fourth line. Like some people have already mentionned he does kill penalties, and as a center it allows Koivu to save his energy for even strength or PP situations. I know his contract is a burden, but if Ribeiro does not pan out on the second line he can also be someone to fill that spot if necessary. At least he's got the talent as well the footspeed to do so. Another thing is that he's also played on top lines in ottawa, which means playing regularly with the likes of Hossa and Alfie. This suggests that maybe he can step in and play that kind of role with Kovy and Samsonov, who are also skilled forwards with speed. Lastly, he's in his contract year, so if he actually wants to remain in NHL, he should show a willingness to contribute offensively a bit more this season.
