The Blues don't use their centers as playmaking distributors. They prefer big bodies at center. Backes was originally a winger. I don't think how Jaskin was used at Moncton will be the deciding factor for Hitchcock. He'll probably be a winger but if a center experiment worked, it really changes the Blues' options in the offseason for reworking their forward lines, so there is incentive to try it.
