it appears that erskine is the 4 not a 6. there is no question that his defensive game has improved to go with quality physical game. i personally think he is a very good 3rd pair defenseman but the capitals seem to see more.

hillen is another case of i dont know. players improve at different rates and older players like erskine, hillen and olesky can be examples of late bloomers that are real players. hillen looks like a good player, if a little small. maybe i dont know what i am looking at but he sure looks like he does his job well.

what is certain is that fans judging these players based on pedigree conflicts with what the capitals are doing with these players. orlov is in the ahl as you mention. if he was better than hillen or erskine or olesky, he would be in the nhl. rosters are expanded and the caps need not lose any of these players for depth purposes. oates wants to play those three instead of orlov right now.
