C: New York Rangers get unlucky against tank teams.
a more realistic approach.....
Buffalo wins their next 3...(PIT, NYR, WPG)...NYR and WPG must be in regulation.
and 3 of the follow 4 need to happen....(If Buffalo comes away with 1 or 0 pts against PIT then these pts need to adjust by the pts lost by Buffalo)
(1) NYI only get 2 pts in their next 4 games (all on the road)
(2) NYR get only get a max of 4 points in their other 4 games.
(3) WPG gets a max of 5 pts in their other 4 games (they finish season on next Thu)
(4) NJ does not get 10 pts in their next 5 games. Depending on games NJ could have the edge on tiebreakers currently both have 13 RO W)
If all of these happen the standings would be
NYI 51 pts NYI at BUF
NYR 50 pts NJ at NYR
BUF 50 pts
NJ 50 pts
WPG 50 or 51 but no games left
NJ goes 5-0 in their gmae (though they dont have to)
effectively the last games of the season become games where the winner takes the playoff spot--the loser is eliminated.
