The data's not great; perhaps the difference is more pronounced between the 80's and the 90's than between the 90's and today.

And I'm not sure how to evaluate average skating other than the eye test, but I still disagree with the idea that it was somehow more difficult to score 60 when Bure did it despite a greater number of players doing so.

I took the time to post scoring distributions from all the years that Bure came close to 60 and the scoring distributions for the last two seasons, and the response I got for my trouble essentially boiled down to "yeah but if you watch the footage players were better back then".
