Only decent way I've found is rubbing the sticky side of stick tape on the corners. A little goes a long way. Usually I hate it initially and end up taking most of it off and just leaving a little residue behind.

Only time I ever had to do this, I took a Scotch Brite pad and lightly scuffed it up, worked perfect. For me it was way easier to remove grip than to add grip. Also works nicely on the neck of glossy guitars to make them slicker

I have a can of Plasti-Dip, it works okay to add some grip but peels off very quickly and looks terrible.
