For those suggesting Gormely for the Oilers first I wonder if it really is the case that he is close to being NHL ready.

I have to confess to not seeing him play in the AHL this year (perhaps once but I can;t really rememebr). Statistically he was solid in terms of his offensive output with 5 goals and 29 points. However he was -9. Of course +/- is a very crude stat, but in this case you have to note that this was the worst of the Pirates dmen with the majority being + players.

By comparison Martin Marincin had 6 goals and 28 points but was +21. (OKC and Portland had roughly the same records). Watching Marincin over the course of the year in OKC I have been very pleased with his game. But how many of us here would see him as being ready to make the next step.

As I said, given that +/- is such a crude measure it would be nice to have a better sense of how well Gormley, a kid that I like an awful lot, has adjusted to the pro game before even thinking about a deal involving the Oilers #1.
