I think you are referring to the Panthers trading down two spots from #1 (Nash) to #3 (Bouw) for the "option of swapping picks with Colombus" - which they never exercised...

Then they made the trade with Atlanta to keep them from drafting the player who never wanted to come here.

The Florida Panthers are the only team in pro sports history who traded assets for the opportunity to draft in a later position.

They traded
----the 1st overall pick
----a 3rd round pick
----a 4th round pick
----a ping pong ball in the Crosby draft (one out of their three)


----the third overall pick - and the opprtunity to draft a player who never wanted to be here

It still really boggles the mind.
