Methot is sick. He's like Suter minus the production. He's honestly about on par with Phillips circa '06-'07 (when he was the #1 on our finals run). He is absolutely a #2-3 defenceman, and he's an ideal partner for Karlsson because he is so strong defensively yet skates and plays the puck quickly enough to fit seamlessly into an up-tempo system. Right now he's better than Cowen (not that it matters, we'll keep both).

Ottawa's task in the up-coming seasons is to fill the void left by Gonchar (Phillips is bottom-pairing-calibre at this point and won't be hard to replace). If they get a top-notch guy to fit in with Karlsson, Cowen and Methot then the blue-line will be elite. If not it'll be good but not spectacular. Dealing Methot would just be a step backwards for no reason.
