Fact of the matter is that the Flyers organization needed to see if Lauridsen has a future at the NHL level with the club. I think we can all agree that this season has been the perfect opportunity to see if some of the younger players have a chance. Lauirdsen has shown that he can play at this level. Are there holes in his game? No doubt about it. But in the limited time he's played, he's shown he's capable of holding his own. Yes, he'll need power skating sessions in the off season to improve his skating (something which has also improved greatly from the time he left college). As for positioning and all that, that's only learned through experience. Lauridsen gets the skating down, everything else will fall into place.

I'm very comfortable if he's the 6th - 7th defenseman next year because that means he'll be with the team all year long and he'll be practicing with the team all year long. That also means he'll be able to soak up all the information he needs from guys like Timonen, Schenn, Grossmann and if around, Pronger. Sending him back to the AHL won't do him any good at this point. He needs to be around those guys to pick up what he needs to be successful at the NHL level. He doesn't need to play 20+ minutes a night now. He needs to learn from the best to make it at the next level.
