Akeson has never been given the opportunity to see if he can be an NHL player. Couturier and Schenn suffered through a bad sophomore season (not like that's ever happened to players before) and while Laughton only played five games, he more than held his own in a limited role.
As for going into next season with that lineup, I'm more than comfortable with it. It's about letting the younger players grow into their roles and if it means the team is going to be mediocre while they get better, then those are the lumps you take. The team needs to allow these young players to play.
