It does sound ridiculous to take Yakupov just because he had a handful of good games. Some of them were meaningless. What about the drought that he went through? I think Bill summed it best when he said that Yakupov was not considered. That tells you what the experts think of him with regards to NT at this point.

I know he doesn't get much ice time for Edmonton, but then why should he get ANY ice time for NT? He clearly isn't gaining leadership experience and his inconsistency is a mark of a young player and not a well seasoned pro.

Loktionov on the other hand, was a good 2-way player centering for Kovalchuk and was a steady produced without big gaps between points. He is also much more mature and experienced than Yakupov.
in the last ten games he's benched and had one point. i wouldn't call him consistent though i agree he was consistently mediocre in the ahl. he is in the roster not because he's so good but because there are simlpy no good centers to choose from
