If NJ were looking to rebuild, it wouldn't be a terrible trade (though they could shop him around and see if better offers presented themselves). Montreal's pick will likely be in the ~20-25 range of a really good draft. Pacioretty is a good young piece. And Markov could just be traded to another team for a reasonably significant return of picks/prospects.

I don't know what NJ should do. Goaltending needs to be addressed. They don't have a particularly great prospect pool, and they have to give up their 1st in either this draft or next years. Considering there's a decent chance they'll be even worse next year, they have a tough choice to make. By the time they managed to get together a legitimate goaltender and improve their depth up front, guys like Elias/Zidlicky/Salvador/etc would probably be retiring, and then they'd need to find replacements for those guys.

I don't see a realistic way for them to become a legitimate playoff force / SC contender in the next 3-4 years, and then as mentioned above, more and more holes will develop on the roster due to the age of the team. They might be in need of a rebuild, especially if Clarkson leaves this summer and if they strike out on free agency.
