Raanta's numbers are exciting, but they could use a little perspective.
Two years ago, he posted a SV% .918 in 18 games backing up ex-Leafs prospect Mikael Tellqvist who had almost identical SV% of .919.
Last year (his first as a starter) his .933 SV% was outstanding, but his backup that year put up .926 in 24 games on the same team.
This year, Raanta's numbers are better still at .943, but his backup's numbers (.922) are also outstanding.
I've never seen Raanta play a single minute of hockey, so I don't want to suggest he's not every bit the quality goalie lakai17 is suggesting, but I do think it's possible that system and quality of opopsition might have an affect on those stats a bit.
Either that, or we should try to bring in both Raanta and the guy backing him up (Juha Jarvenpaa). Both goalies are 23 years old and still very early into their playing careers.
