You don't know that. And a large number of teams get some kind of breaks in a playoff run across any sport. Esa Tikkanen missed a wide open net against Detroit in Finals in 1998 in Game 2 that would have given them a two goal lead with nine minutes left in 3rd period. If he scores, they split in Detroit and who knows what happens? Nicklas Lidstrom goal from center ice that turns that series completely on its head in 2002.

Jeffrey Maier. Giants recover RW McQuarters fumble in NFC Championship game vs Packers. Kyle Williams has ball go off his knee in NFC Championship game vs 49ers.

A lot of things go right for teams who make deep runs and/or win championships. Parity has never been greater in NHL and the difference between playoff teams seems to be narrowing.
