Pittsburgh has TWO players making that, Chicago has Kane/Toews, and many teams have at least one 8 million dollar a year player, so your argument is not valid at all. The GM gambled on the bridge contract and may have to pay the piper. I just hope so called "fans" don't expect PK to take any less than any of his peers would.
