Markov isn't THAT slow, just taking time to adjust to no longer having above average speed/acceleration. I think he has the smarts to make the adjustment, plus an off season of rest then training might get a bit more out of his speed. Going from barely any hockey in 24 months to a condensed schedule surely didn't help.
There is also the aspect of replacing him. If you trade him that leaves a big hole in the top 4 and a weak UFA crop to try and fill it.
