I agree. Volchenkov has struggled since the day he got to NJ. Well maybe not struggled, but underachieved. Volchenkov played the least amount of minutes per game this year. In the playoffs last year he was a #6 d-man and in the regular season he was barely playing more than Kurtis Foster. If it weren't for his PK time he'd be outright useless. If you can sign him as a #6/#7 to a one year deal at 700k then fine take a chance on him, otherwise nope.

I too wanted to take a chance on Martin.

As for moving Orpik, I think it would be a mistake. He is their shutdown d-man and they really would miss him. As it is I'd be looking at who can be brought in to help with the shutdown part next year if I'm Shero.
