For Sabres fans clamoring about what the Oilers need to do or what their players are worth, just consider something:

Yakupov is a 1st overall pick. Look at the names over the last 10 years that he shares company with. Nash, Ovechkin, Crosby, Johnson, Kane, Stamkos, Tavares, Hall, RNH.

Look at what those players have become. Hall had Yakupov-like value after his first 1-2 NHL seasons. Look at the superstar he's become (top-10 in NHL scoring).

RNH and Yakupov are likely going to trend towards that same elite-level plateau - they're just not there yet. Trading them for their absolute value at age 18-19 is asinine without considering the potential that exists with forwards like that.

The Oilers don't really have players that have value outside of these kids - but they still have assets. Sam Gagner (65-pt scoring clip this year) and Ales Hemsky (when healthy a 50-60pt scoring threat) must retain SOME value around the league, and are likely players some desperate team will deal average-or-above bottom-6 players for.
