If he's gone for a year and it doesn't count against his ELC then there is nothing not to like about this move IMO. He'll be around pro's, get paid like a pro, and train like a pro. That should lead him to a pretty seamless transition to the AHL when he returns.
I think this could be great for his development. The KHL teams work hard, I mean as in really hard in the off season, so he'll probably end up in great physical shape. And they work a lot with skating. Which for a big guy like Zharkov can only be good. The KHL is certainly a huge step up from the OHL as well.
My only worry is if he'll get any TOI and if he ever comes back. A young guy might enjoy living near friends and family a little too much.
