Lots of good points here.
Komi's playing with Markhov from what I see, so that makes him #2. Those offensive skills might have rubbed off a bit. In the preseason, he was carrying the puck way more than we've seen him in the past, and Gainey and Carbo want more of that from all the defensemen. Very right in expecting a break out year. He came prepared with 5 extra pounds of muscle, so that shows a willingness to make a tough playoff run.
Learning how to pinch in and jump up on the play only comes with experience in the NHL. With guys like Alfredson, St Louis, Richards, Briere, etc. there are many ways that a d-man can get burned. He's only been playing regularly for one season really, so it's wise that he's been stay-at-home until now.
