maybe there isnt much difference in talent, but, lets just say that Nicolas roy is their #1 choice and he tells them he wont report. If you feel he is the best player, why not draft him? You have until August to convince him to report. If it doesnt work, you can trade him. There will always be a team, for example a Rimouski, quebec, Gatineau, etc. that might be willing to pay with a decent player or 2, and a couple of first round picks. There is a always a team that has a couple first round picks or some accumulated picks in future drafts. That's not a wasted pick, and you have actually increased your organizational depth. And who knows...perhaps you will convince him to report. I know for a fact that BC drafted Boudreau last year, with all indications that he would not report. He did not even meet with the team to discuss the possibility. They drafted him, and were able to convince him during the summer. It obviously worked out for both parties.

If your the GM of the team, you can't just throw your arms up if you get players that dont want to report. It's your job to make it work to your advantage.
I agree with this 100%. don't let the kids, their parents, and their agents run the draft and dictate where they go.

teams should draft whomever they think is best. lets the chips fall where they may and work out any beneficial deals afterwards.
