I think the benchmark has been set by the Philly and LA proposals.

Pitkanen will be a franchise defenceman, probably the single most valuable commodity in the NHL. Pronger was traded straight-up for Shanahan when he was a Power Forward in his prime who had just finished consecutive 50 goal seasons. He also averaged close to 200 PIMs.

Of course it's a gamble, but if Pitkanen fulfills his projected career path, which should be as good as Pronger's, then it's not such a bad deal. Having Comrie and a good pick included is somewhat reassuring, although it would have to be a 1st round pick if Jillson was included.

Frolov, Grebeshkov, Cammalleri is a whole lot of green talent. They each seem destined for solid NHL careers. Perhaps not Hart candidates like Thornton, they will probably see a few All-star games.

With Raycroft, Bergeron, Boynton, and a healthy Samsonov, the Bruins would have an excellent young squad. But unless management decides to blow up the team and start over, this kind of trade is unlikely.
