yes, the team is moving in the right direction and must continue to do so in order to gain respectability back, and with that in mind, here are the moves they should make ahead of next season in order

and yes i know this is all a pipe dream ... but one can dream

obviously tough to judge rfa numbers on many of these contracts so im just ball parking these for cap sake

own team ufa/rfa signings and promotions:

Kadri - 2.5 / year
Komarov - 1.25 / year
Gunnarsson - 2.5 / year
Franson - 2 / year
Colborne - 1 / year

O'Byrne - 1.5 / year
Bozak - 3.75 / year
Orr - 850k / year

move up to 3rd overall to take Drouin, or if not then Mackinnon (but Drouin would be the goal)

Toronto gets:
1st round - 3rd overall

Tampa gets:
21st overall
3rd round pick - Tampa's choice 2013 or 2014

Trade Kulemin

Pittsburgh gets

Toronto gets
2013 3rd round pick
2014 conditional 3rd round pick if penguins make conference finals if not then 4th round
Eric Hartzell - goalie prospect

Trade Gunnarsson

Columbus gets:
D'Amigo - ahler/prospect/depth player

Toronto gets:
LA's 1st rounder - 26-30 overall

League ufas

David Clarkson - 4.25 / year
Mark Eaton - 1 / year

final roster

Van Riemsdyk - Bozak - Kessel
Lupul - Kadri - Clarkson
Ashton - Grabovski - Frattin
Komarov - McClement - Orr

Phaneuf - Gardiner
Brewer - Cody Franson
Liles - O'Byrne

leaves just about 200k in cap space if i used correctly!

with drouin in pipeline and adding a late first + goalie prospect
I expected worst.

Kadri at 2.5? As long as it's not long-term, it's totally reasonable. Remember -- he just had one good season since being a Leafs regular.
Komarov at 1.25 ? No problem
Gunnarsson? On the low-end of the scale probabilities, but totally makes sense.
Franson? He might refuse 2, and at that price, he'll fetch RFA offers.
Colborne? Obviously no problem there, not to mention he'll probably get a 2-way contract.

No problem with the UFA's either.

The trade for Drouin : The Bolts would get 26 better offers than that one.

The trade of Kulemin : It's something the Pens might want to do, but they will probably have shed salary. Value is there, just not sure of that move being the right fit.

The Gunnarson trade : Why bothering signing him, and why would LA take Gunnarson to begin with? That one makes no sense.

No problem with Eaton. Clarkson might get better offers -- even though 4.25 is okay as far as im concerned. It will come down to whether Clarkson actually wants to play with the Leafs.
