I think it is very clear from watching him, that Edler's slip in quality of play has been the result of declined mobility. That is why I think the back issue was the real deal (any back stiffness slows you down a lot and makes you move mechanically). He couldn't make a smooth turn over his right shoulder all season and he ended up adapting his defensive angles to that (in the process becoming more boom/bust devensively and less positionally sound).

I really hope he works on flexibility, footwork, and balance this offseason more so than strength. Mentally he's an elite defenseman. He needs the foot speed and agility to open up more possibilities for himself on the ice.
