As far as scouting goes, this is a thread from 2006 but it's still pretty relevant and has lots of posts from people who have gotten into scouting and what the job entails, how to get your foot in the door if you don't have any connections, etc:

It seems to me like a lot of agents come from law backgrounds, so that might be a better bet than business if that's the route you choose.
