Anybody the Flyers draft this year won't be NHL ready realistically for a 2-3 seasons. Rundblad is as ready as he is going to get. Yes you would weaken the defense this year, but are the Flyers winning the cup this year anyway? If you could get him for pennies on the dollar, it wouldn't be a bad move long term but that requires some forward thinking, something the Flyers lack.
Bingo. The Flyers aren't a Stanley Cup contending team, so why not take a chance on a guy like Rundblad? So what if Grossmann, Meszaros or Coburn are moved so that the Flyers can work a guy like Rundblad into the lineup. Sometimes a team needs to take the lumps in order to get to the next level and this is one franchise that doesn't want to seem to take those lumps. Everything is quick fix. I say move forward with adding a young puck moving defender like Rundblad into the lineup and let him learn from a Timonen. Use Schenn in a second pairing role with Streit and then use Gustafsson with either Coburn or Grossmann on the third pairing.
