lol that's an obvious question? Ofcourse teams can buy out themselves and pay no picks.
BUT does the owner want to pay the bill. For example: Dipietro buyout is $24 million dollars. Does the islanders want to pay 24 million dollars or give up a prospect or a pick and pay $2.5 million for Komi.
Another alternative is that we get pronger from the flyers and they get komi. pronger is never going to play again and flyers get a serviceable Dman.
trading komi for picks for overpriced contract is probably going to be a rich man-poor man's trade. Let's face it, we got franson because Nashville didn't want to pay lombardi. Not every team thrives on a fanbase that pays for overpriced tickets and subpar hockey for a decade. A lot of the small market teams lose money and if they don't make the playoffs or put on a good on-ice product, they're done.
