Gunnarson is a good puck mover and a solid defender in his own zone. We need more of these not less.
I agree completely. I also have a feeling (in honesty, based on absolutely nothing but a gut feeling) that Gunnar would be easier to sign for less than Franson - I feel like Franson is going to want to break the bank after taking a bridge contract last year.

With Phaneuf, Reilly, and Gardiner in the pipeline, and guys like Finn, Percy, and Blacker - I think we can afford to move Franson while his value is high now. I can see something along the lines of Franson + Scrivens being of interest to the Oilers, but I have no idea what we'd be getting back. They wouldn't give us any of their top young core - so we'd be looking at guys like Gagner and Pajaarvi (sp?). I'm not sure either fills a need for us.

That leaves the #7 pick - but what else would we have to throw in? I'm not sure Franson, Scrivens and #21 is enough - but if we added one of Finn / Percy / Blacker - would that get it done? It would give Edmonton the assets they're looking for to improve immediately and for the future (young top 4 D, young back up goalie, and another solid D prospect + a solid prospect at #21) -but I think they'd ask for more in exchange for a Monahan / Linholm / Nichushkin ....

Now - if we could pry the Iles #15 pick and use that instead of #21 giving the Oilers a shot at Horvat - THAT might do it.
