Price Gouging is actually not a horrible thing. In situations like Hurricanes governments have tried to enforce pricing on items like fuel etc, and all they did was create a black market for items where the items would sell out WAY faster (since they were priced below market value) and then people would resell them at higher prices anyways.

There is some fascinating economics around price gouging and scarcity and from what I have read it actually makes more sense for the general population if products are sold for their actual value (even if that seems crazy high) in times of crisis.
