There were pluses and minuses to all the candidates Sather considered.

Personally, I'm thrilled that Sather quickly identified the man he wanted, and boldly and aggressively pursued him.

Sometimes there is no benefit to conducting an extensive, time-consuming search. It's not as if he was considering unknowns. Information could perhaps best be gathered by consulting others. Sometimes an interview is not the best way to evaluate a potential coach. The interview of AV was the last, not the first, step in the process and obviously confirmed everything Sather knew or had gathered.

Don't we remember Trottier?

Whether or not AV works out remains to be seen, but I'm happy that Sather was decisive.
