I'm not sure exactly what would qualify. Obviously if he has a cut and it isn't stopping him from playing, that isn't going to stop a buyout. But anything that requires offseason surgery, even if he plays through it, probably will.

Look at Heatley. In the last 4 years, he missed 2 games. This year he had a season ending injury and the wild can't buy him out. Richards has had a concussion. He had the injury from the Kaleta hit which could have been much worse.

Richards isn't going to be the difference between us winning a cup next year or not. If we keep him and then can't buy him out next summer, everyone who said we should keep him for another year is going to be screaming bloody murder. Cut our losses now.
