Trading them is fine. Keeping them is fine. Letting two young players who have had success at the NHL level walk for nothing is, in my mind, a huge mistake. I still think Blum ends up a #3/4D, and Hali a solid 3rd liner.
The issue is that combined, theyll make close to 1.5M. That may not seem like much, but to the's the difference between a 3M forward and a 4.5-5M forward. It's also a waste of contract spots. You can't carry guys that can't\won't contribute. You only have 50 spots.
