OK, that's a pointless argument. Players aren't allowed to claim to be anything, because they MUST be evaluated by a club physician. It's a requirement of the SPC.

Besides which, a situation similar the one you're talking about is given as an example of circumvention in the CBA itself. I'm on my phone, so I'm not going to find it right now.

Drury independently decided not to file for a medical exception, that he might not have gotten in any case, to his buy out. If Richards does that, fine. But there isn't a handshake agreement between him and the team. All interactions of that type are governed by the CBA. Do you really see the NHL or NHLPA allowing something like that? Saying "they'd never have to know" is simply delusional.
