His assessment is still pretty fair. Martinez has about a max potential as a #4 mobile defenseman. He is not overly physical, but has good defensive instincts and isn't too shy from board battles. His #1 asset is his skating, and he has been noted to have a shot that is harder than you'd expect, but he doesn't use it that often. One of his best assets is his hockey sense and vision (which is pretty much a requirement for any player Lombardi is interested in). He is good at moving the puck and reading the play. A play that shows this that I remember the most is this one:

It is also not like he never hits, but he does so rarely and when things are on the line. He finishes his checks, but you can see that he isn't very strong or physical. He goes for mostly stick battles.

Also a big goal of his this year:

A huge goal of his last year:

He knows when to go all in and attack. I can't think of many instances of him pinching and being wrong.

“This is for you Kings fans wherever you may be. All the frustration and disappointment of the past is gone. The 45 year drought is over. The Los Angeles Kings are indeed the Kings of the National Hockey League. They are the 2012 Stanley Cup Champions!” - Bob Miller
