he's still close to ready to cracking the NHL. of course it doesn't mean he's going to step into it and become the next Bobby Orr... but he can take up a depth spot while he developes.
Brewer and Laraque's salaries offset Satan's. Brewer is an RFA at the end of the season and may be looking for a raise.

IMO, the Oilers lack top pairing d-men for the near future. Guys like Semenov & Woywitka might get there eventually, but aren't ready now. If they ever develop to that level, you're looking at 2006 or 2007 range IMO. The Oilers can't afford to move their #1 d-man for short term scoring help. In the near term, adding Satan would certainly help the offense, but the blueline would be a shambles IMO. The Oilers would have Smith & Staios (3/4th d-man IMO) as the top pairing, and then a bunch of unproven kids. I don't think that situation would help the Oiler make the P/O's this year.
Brewer will be in pretty poor situation looking for a raise with his yearly stats. He is playing much better of late, but I don't think you move you're #1 d-man you're paying $2.5M for a 100 games of Satan making $5M per year.
