I remember a scout interview saying the gap between junior/college to AHL is much bigger than from AHL to NHL. Thomas dominated in OHL and he manage to score 19 goals in his first season in AHL. Kristo dominated in college and had a taste of AHL. Both have great speed. Thomas is more of a goal scorer point producing forward whereas Kristo is more shutdown defensive forward. Maybe the Habs just gave up on Kristo thinking that he'll never make it to the NHL.

Bottom line Thomas has more potential than Kristo.
Kristo also was the best scorer of his team.
He did 26 goals: that's 10 more than his linemate Corbin Knight.
Actually best in WCHA.

So being the best scorer in WCHA is pretty good for a shutdown forward.

Note that Brock Nelson, who was scoring about the same pace as Kristo (they were linemates) did 25G-27A in 66 games in AHL this season.

So at this point, we don't know which one will score more.
Just that Kristo is better in defense.
