From what Poile is saying, the Predators are unlikely to be active in the free agent market, beyond backup goaltender. He said yesterday that they have a value that they're willing to pay for every player on the market, and if it goes beyond that, then they're not interested. He then went on to say that it's trending toward costs being beyond what they think players are worth. He hinted at being more interested in a trade.
In other words, the same things he says every year...then training camp approaches and it becomes, "we want to see what we have," then the season begins and it turns into "we'll be looking around the trading deadline."
He's already backpedaled on the "we need to replace Erat with a veteran F."
They'll swing and miss on Briere, they may bring in a low level "project" player like Daugavins...but all of this talk about Horton, Weiss, even Brunner...is a pipe dream.
