Diaz, because of his injury, he had very good production early and a few rougher patches late, but overall his production was solidly in the top 4 calibre of play.
I agree we could use a #2 guy but those guys don't grow on trees and are hard to acquire. One possible solution is Markov taking another step forward in his recovery from all the injuries. I think he can be better than he was last year, plus a longer season with more off days will only help him physically.
Gorges played in our top pairing that year because we didn't have much better. We were still a bottom dweller even if he did good (with Subban). I do agree however that he can be a second pairing dman, only if he's paired with someone who can outmuscle the opponent and win battles against the forecheck, for 20 min. +. Same thing with Markov and Diaz. Only Emelin can be decent at that. That's the main issue in our defense.
