There might have been some lost in translation in that Windsor thread.

“If he had been taken in the first round, Montreal would have dictated where he played,” agent Craig Oster, of Newport Sports Management Inc., said.

“Since he wasn’t drafted in the first round, with the NHL/IIHF transfer agreement, he has to be offered back.”

Former NHL goaltender Tommy Salo is the general manager of Leksand and the man Oster and the Spitfires must work to get de la Rose’s release.

“Mr. Salo is a reasonable man and doesn’t want to hold anyone up, but there are certain rights he has in order for (a release) to be obtained,” Oster said. “We’ll wait and see what’s good for everyone.”
