My speculation is that the main difference is the "out clause". Jamison didn't have one, so he didn't have as much protection of downside risk. I think that RSE was willing and able to close despite less direct subsidy from the COG because they can make the team portable in 5 years, in case they are taking a bath.

The NHL sure seems to love these guys for some reason, that's as good as and perhaps better than any.
