Too young? Nonis was fired in May of 2008. Daniel and Henrik were 28 years old at the start of the 08/09 season when Gillis took over, they'd already put up multiple 70+ points seasons. Bieksa and Burrows were 27, Ohlund was 32, Salo was 33, Mitchell was 31, Kesler was 24, the core group of players were not too young.
In 2005/06 when Nonis took over the core group was Naslund 31, Bertuzzi 29, Morrison 29, Ohlund and Jovo 29, Salo 30, Henrik 25, Daniel 25, Linden was 35, again they were not "too young". In 05/06 they missed the playoffs, in 06/07 they made the second round because Luongo stood on his head and in 07/08 they again missed the playoffs. That's why Nonis was fired, great core very poor surrounding players.
As I stated before, some of that is the development of the players for Gillis. But to say they were too young for Nonis is absurd.
