While I think what you're saying could be very true, McDonagh still hasn't shown that PP ability. If he does, this deal becomes grand larceny. A couple minutes in the playoffs doesn't prove much. McDonagh has a good outlet, is good at gaining the zone and has nifty moves once he is there. Being good on the PP requires more than that. It requires great vision, anticipation and good puck movement. He could very well prove to be excellent there, as his hockey IQ is great everywhere else, but thus far in his career, he has not shown that yet on any level so it's premature to expect that. If he gets PP time and sucks, he could very well reach 40 just based off random points. Girardi isn't an ace there and he had 10 PPP in 11-12.
