Compete level trumps size every time.
If guys like Perron, Ference and Gordon manage to increase our team's overall compete level then we'll be fine.
That really is an incredibly key point that is being lost in the discussions somewhat.
Gordon and Ference aren't big guys but they work their butts off and make our team harder to play against. They actually work "against" us if we're simply looking at weight and height but these are the kinds of guys who make teams better on the road.
Hall and Yakupov both aren't huge guys but they're going to be tough to play against (Hall already is and Yakupov will get there). If Perron can bring a little grit to the top 6, the size issue might be a bit of a non-issue. People never seem to view Detroit as a physically weak team but their top two offensive players, Datsyuk and Zetterberg, are both under 6'0 tall. RNH reminds me a ton of Datsyuk and as he gets older and bulks up, he'll obviously become a lot stronger on the puck.
Like you said, it comes down to compete level rather than pure size. Our best cycling line the last two seasons has been Hall-RNH-Eberle.
