Markov was healthy last year and top 5 scorer among dmen. And he's 34, not 44! He's a very smart guy and will most likely adjust his game as time goes by. He was gased last year, but it may be due to the fact that he didn't play much in the preceeding years. Used properly, he could be effective for the next 3-4 years.
If he maintains his level of play next year and the Habs offer him 2y @3M, he will understandably leave. And who will run our PP?
He's 34 with a LOT of miles. He's in decline for sure and more and more is a PP specialist. He's great on the PP (among the best in the league) but that's about all he's good for now.
2y at 4 is the most I'd give him. But letting him walk for zero is simply not an option.
