Wish he was still here. The problem was that we were playing Koivu as a first line centre when he should have been a second or third.
I don't think getting rid of Koivu really made or broke us. We never really improved but the very next year we did go farther in the playoffs than Koivu ever took us. Koivu probably should have been traded at some point, rather than kept until the end of his contract. Markov has been pretty crucial to whatever success we have had, however. Just look at the Habs record with Markov and without, for the past 5 years or so.
