No, it's not Bergevin's fault if PK struggles. If PK can't handle the stress of playing for a contract, he will have a tough time in the NHL. But we know that's not the case so you can delete that from your mind.

As for Bergevin, he'll always have a choice. If other teams want to sign him to an offer sheet, then we can either match or take the compensation (like to be four 1st round picks), or trade him for a massive return before.
I don't think Bergevin will go through any of this anyways, he'll re-sign PK at some point during the year. Hopefully PK is extremely loyal and will agree to a cap hit of around 6M, that would be amazing but likely won't happen.
