Blues fans might be excited to learn Pietrangelo has directed his camp to solely focus on an extension with the St. Louis Blues. In other words, sources close to the former 4th overall pick tell me they aren’t seeking an offersheet and are concentrating only on a contract with the Blues. This is what Pietrangelo wants and his agency Newport Sports, led by Don Meehan, has begun talks with Doug Armstrong and the Blues. Sources say the talks remain in the very early stages.
The Blues are open to entertaining a wide range of concepts. Nowadays the focus with star players coming out of entry level, is hitting a homerun that sets the player up for the next five to seven years. We’ve seen this recently with players like Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle, Tyler Seguin, Steven Stamkos, Erik Karlsson, and Drew Doughty.

Many would place Pietrangelo in the above mentioned category, whether the Blues view him as a $7million player remains to be seen. There’s no question they feel comfortable giving him the term he might desire but they won’t feel pressured into paying him a number they aren’t comfortable with. Armstrong has always had a philosophy when it comes to negotiating second contracts and it’s going to be interesting to see how far off the page he’s willing to stray.
Well poop.
