Option 1) LTIR Pronger before the season starts, the draw back from this is that the credit amount from LTIR will only be the total we are over the cap, so if we did it today and made no roster changes, we would only be allowed to be approx 2 million over. This means we could in theory sign Gagne to a deal that would bring us up to 4.9 million over the cap so that we would get full credit for Prongers cap hit.
Option 2) Be under the cap by the first day of the season (shuffle players around, trade somebody etc) and then put Pronger on LTIR, that way we get the full credit of his cap hit no matter what.
Option 2 gives you more freedom because you aint using the LTIR credit just yet, but option 1 does exist if we really need it.
So they could send Couturier and Laughton down to Adirondack on day one, put Pronger on LTIR and then be allowed to be $4.9M over cap for as long as he's there. That sounds like a pretty good deal. The only problem is they won't be able to recall both guys unless they trade someone else first. Including Pronger, there are currently 25 roster players. So, who do you think doesn't get to stay? Bourdon?
