The problem with calling guys up from the minors and sending them back down is that if you send down a guy who is not waiver exempt (how many of Toronto's guys are actually waiver exempt?), he can get claimed off waivers. A youngster like Morgan Reilly is exempt from waivers until he plays enough games and/or professional years but I think most of our depth players who won't be in the regular line up have too much professional experience to be waiver exempt. The waiver rule is in place to prevent rich teams from hoarding and stock-piling NHL-level talent in their farm teams. At least we don't have to worry about Liles getting claimed off waivers. No one is going to want to take his contract.
